But here is where the whole matter rests on a knife’s edge: this cycle does not begin with man. It begins with God. All of it—the hearing, the stirring, the conviction, the love, the faith—is contingent upon His will, at His appointed time, for the person He chooses to move upon. “So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy” (Romans 9:16). A man can will all he likes. He can run himself ragged. But unless God opens his ears to hear and softens his heart to receive, there is no ignition. The engine of faith does not start itself.

The Tragedy of Knowing Without Doing

And this is the great tragedy: a man can know. He can know deeply, broadly, and fluently. He can speak of God with eloquence and parse doctrine with precision. And yet—when the moment comes that demands action, he fails. He fails not from ignorance but from something far worse: a knowing that never matured into doing. Paul himself confessed this war: “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do” (Romans 7:19). Such a man is, as Paul warned Timothy, “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:7). He is ever knowing, never proving, never nurturing, never loving. Never walking in the faith he so readily recognises in others and so readily names with his mouth.

James puts it plainly: “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22). The man who hears and does not act is not merely negligent—he is self-deceived. He has convinced himself that knowing is enough. That recognition is the same as possession. But it is not. You can recognise a fire from across the room and still freeze to death. Knowledge without action is a barren womb. It conceives nothing. It births nothing. It sustains nothing (James 2:17-26).

The Desperation That Opens the Door

Why does such a man fail to pursue and receive the mercy of God? Because he is not desperate enough. He still has something to hold on to. He still believes he has options. He still thinks he can manage. And as long as a man thinks he can manage, he will never throw himself entirely upon God. It is only when a man comes to see that he has nothing left—that he is already dead, already spent, already bankrupt—that he can truly pursue God with the kind of abandon God requires (Mark 10:23).

This was the exact mindset of the prodigal son. Consider him. He had taken his inheritance—everything his father had set aside for him—and squandered it on reckless living. When famine struck, he found himself feeding pigs, longing to eat their slop, and no one gave him a thing. He was finished. There was nothing left to protect, nothing left to lose. And it was precisely there—in the pigsty, at the bottom, in total ruin—that something shifted. The Scripture says, “He came to himself” (Luke 15:17). What a phrase. He came to himself. He woke up. And he said, “I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son” (Luke 15:18–19).

And what did it cost him to return? Nothing. He had nothing left to give up. His desperation was not his defeat—it was his doorway. The father did not meet him with a lecture. He met him with a robe, a ring, a feast, and a kiss (Luke 15:20–24). That is the mercy of God. But it only comes to the one who has stopped pretending he can save himself.

The Lesson of Abel Beth-Maacah

There is a remarkable episode in 2 Samuel 20 that illuminates this truth with startling clarity. A man named Sheba, the son of Bichri, had rebelled against King David and drawn Israel after him. When the rebellion collapsed, Sheba fled and took refuge inside the city of Abel Beth-Maacah. Joab, David’s commander, pursued him there and laid siege to the city. He battered the walls. He was prepared to destroy everything—every man, woman, and child—to get to the one man who had caused the trouble (2 Samuel 20:15).

Then a wise woman from within the city called out to Joab. She reasoned with him: “Why will you swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?” (2 Samuel 20:19). Joab answered plainly—he did not want the city. He wanted the man. Give him up, and the siege would end. The people of the city looked around. They saw their walls crumbling. They saw an army they could not defeat. They understood with perfect clarity: if they continued to shield this man, the cost would be their total destruction. But if they gave him up—this one man, this single source of all the commotion—they would live. So they cut off Sheba’s head and threw it over the wall to Joab. And Joab blew the trumpet, and the army withdrew, and the city was saved (2 Samuel 20:21–22).

They reasoned aright. They counted the cost and chose survival over misplaced loyalty to a traitor.

Surrender the Traitor Within Your Walls

Now consider: you are that city—the inheritance of The Lord (Deuteronomy 32:9). Your soul is the population—the inhabitants who live within your walls. And a traitor is living among them. It is the flesh. It is the uncrucified nature, the indulged appetite, the sin that has been given shelter and protection for far too long. And because of that one resident, the armies of God’s judgment are at your gates. The walls are crumbling. The situation is beyond you. You have no strength to go forward this way.

The wise man recognises this. He does not pretend he can withstand the siege. He does not try to negotiate from a position of strength he does not have. Instead, he reasons aright and says, “Why should I keep suffering for the sake of the very thing that is destroying me? This situation is beyond me. I will seek the face of God. I will seek His mercy in fasting and prayer, knowing that He is merciful and will hear a prayer made from faith—a prayer rising from a destitute heart.”

And God will hear it. “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit” (Psalm 34:18). “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). He will answer. He will give relief. He will give rest. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

But this mercy comes at a cost—not a cost to you, for you have nothing left to lose, but a cost to the flesh—the traitor. You must hand over the traitor. You must surrender the one who caused God to set Himself against you (Isaiah 54:16). You must mortify the deeds of the body (Romans 8:13). “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” (Galatians 5:24).

[At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met Moses and was about to kill him. But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched Moses’ feet with it. “Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me,” she said. So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said “bridegroom of blood,” referring to circumcision.) —Exodus 4:24]

Cut off his head. Throw it over the wall. And the siege will end. The trumpet will sound. The army will withdraw. And your soul will be saved. For “what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36). The flesh was already condemned. Letting go of it costs you nothing you were not already losing. But keeping it—ah, keeping it costs you everything.

I have been baptized into the death of Jesus Christ.

I am buried with Him by the baptism into His death.

As Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, I also, I now walk in newness of life.

I have been planted together with Him in the likeness of His death and I declare that I am also in the likeness of His resurrection.

My old man is crucified with Him and the body of sin was destroyed.

Henceforth, I do not serve sin; I take no instruction from sin.

My body is dead and I am free from sin.

I dare say that sin has no dominion over me, because I am no longer under the law, but I am standing in His grace.

I am a servant of God and I yield myself to God in obedience unto righteousness.

I therefore present my body unto God as a servant to righteousness and unto holiness.

I am free from sin and I am a servant of God.

My fruit is holiness and everlasting life.

I have the gift of God which is eternal life through Jesus Christ my Lord.

Question:

Did God experience such profound sorrow for Jesus’ suffering in Matthew 24:47 that His attention shifted away, leading Jesus to cry out and ask why He had forsaken him?

Answer:

Matthew 27:46 revealed one of the seven sayings of Jesus Christ on the cross.

The statement “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me” doesn’t imply that God at a point couldn’t bear the suffering of His son. But the reason is that God couldn’t bear to see sin, your sin, my sin, our sin. It is for this reason Jesus on the cross endured judgment and penalty for the atonement of our sins. We deserve to be forsaken by God; we deserve to be separated from Him; we deserve to perish; but that wasn’t the plan of God concerning us. These words should influence our decisions, which is, that our place of shame, pain, mockery, humiliation, and condemnation was once taken by Jesus on the grounds of reconciling us to God. Interestingly, I can imagine how difficult it will be for one to lay down his life for another. Let alone, failing to be appreciated for such sacrifice. What picture am I painting? The decision to die for another to live is a very difficult one to make. Yet a man once made such a decision for our sake. The least we can do is to appreciate this ultimate sacrifice by Jesus Christ. May we receive His grace to fulfill the purpose of our calling.

1Cor.2:13-14: Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.  But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

A. Natural Man

Who is the Natural Man?   

• The Bible says, to the natural man the things of God are foolishness. Why? Because the things of God are only spiritually discerned. (1Co 2:14)

• For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass (Jas 1:23 )

• This is so because the corrupt nature has a hostile attitude toward God. It refuses to place itself under the authority of God’s standards because it can’t. Those under the control of the corrupt nature can’t please God. But if God’s Spirit (your new nature, not the Holy Spirit) lives in you, you are under the control of your spiritual nature, not your corrupt nature. Whoever doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ (your new nature, not the Holy Spirit) doesn’t belong to him. (Romans 8:7-9)

• The natural man is human nature without the spirit.

• The natural man is the one who is ruled by his senses.

• The natural man is a man who is not spiritual-minded;

• The natural man is unregenerated ( not renewed, not revived, not restored), whose interests are confined to the things of this life.

•  The natural man depends on human wisdom to solve all his problems.

• The natural man lives to please himself and to gratify the desires of the unconverted heart including a mental understanding of Biblical principles.   

• The natural man may have a great deal of knowledge but lacks spiritual wisdom. 

 B. Spiritual Man 

Who is the Spiritual Man?

• Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (1Co 2:13)

• But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he is judged of no man. (1Co 2:15)

• The spiritual man can discern the things of God.

• Things long hidden are revealed by the illuminating work of the Spirit, not by human wisdom.

• The spiritual man sets his mind on the things of the spirit. What are the “things of the Spirit”? They are those things that the Holy Spirit was sent to reveal. John 14:25-26

• The Spiritual man is a person re-born, experiencing a new creation that leads to a new life.

• The Spiritual man now belongs to the Lord. He is God’s special child who lives as a pilgrim or sojourner on earth.

• The spiritual man has no desire or appetite for the things of the world.

• The mysteries of God are not understood by a carnal person, somebody who relies on his brain to understand a matter.

• The spirit you have received searches the deep things of God.

• The deep things of God are only revealed to your spirit man, so if your spirit-man is not mature you can only know little of the things of God, so you need to have a matured spirit-man. Your spirit-man gets matured by edifying it through tongues and feeding it by assimilating God’s Word.

• You need the illumination of the Lord to see, hear, and understand revelations

• The Holy Spirit comes and takes a seat in your spirit man. He becomes a resident teacher to teach, instruct, and commune with your spiritman to enable you to know what you should know.

• The spirit you have received can be lighted. By the illumination of your spirit, you can find out what God has freely given to you.

• The spirit you have received is the one that God uses as a candle to light revelations in you.

• God is Spirit and the only way that you get to know Him is by your spirit. If your spirit does not catch what you read from the Bible or what you hear, you will never know it.

• When you are led by your new nature, there is no error with it.

Difference Between the Natural Man and the Spiritual Man

•  The natural man is directed by his or her abilities and human nature, A spiritual man is directed by what the Holy Spirit teaches. He or she is directed by his or her relationship with the Holy Spirit.

• The natural man seeks the path that reflects the norms and accepted perspectives of society, The spiritual man perceives the things of God, is in love with Christ, and desires nothing more than to seek His will and help to become more like Him.

• The thoughts and conversation of the natural man center around his interests and accomplishments. Self is the center, The spiritual man fills his or her thoughts and conversations with HIS Word. Christ is the center.

• With The natural man, he says “I do for God”. With The spiritual man, he says “I do with God”.

• The natural man has fears and anxiety. He sees God as distant and not interested in his personal life. The natural man seeks to control things himself. The Spiritual man is secure and in peace. He knows God loves him.  He knows Christ reflects love, commitment, peace, and faith toward him even when circumstances are difficult.

Conclusion

In Conclusion, we have received a spirit that is empowered to make our soul new. The spirit we have received is the one searching the deep things of God. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in your spirit. It is this spirit we have received that will enable you to know the measure of what God has for you. Sin has no dominion over the spirit you have received.

The new nature you have received is alive, so if you choose not to limit it, you will also heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, and cast out devils freely.

If Jesus was to be still living on the surface of the earth whatever HE would have been doing – that is what you should do daily.

Again spend more hours praying in tongues.

 After satan was cast to the earth, satan set an agenda against man. Rev 12:13-17 says  “And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.  And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.  And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.  And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.  And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make (battle) war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ”.

Strategy the devil uses to lay hold over your soul

• Isolates you (Adam, (Gen.3) David,( Judah (Gen.38)
• Sow seeds of doubt in your mind
• Influence your source of information
• Control man(i.e. to control his mind, emotions and will)
• To lay hold on the crown of God’s creation to frustrate the purposes of God
• To overthrow man
• To cause man to sin against God
• To make man let go the Word of God
• To get man to obey him (satan) instead of The Most High God.
• To torpedo your faith and cause you to doubt God’s Word.
• To cause man to fall short of what should be full or complete.
• To make man lose his power to rule with God.
• To fill your mind with unbelief

Winning The Battle for Your Soul

​Battle Begins in the Mind

• The beginning point in winning and overcoming the battle of your soul is to realize and reckon that the battle begins in the mind.
• The mind is the battlefield for the battle waging for your soul.
• The mind processes what you hear, listen to and enters you; therefore Gird up the loins of your mind. (1Peter 1:13) Watch the thoughts that come into your mind, watch the things you accept, watch the things that you believe and take care about it.
• To overcome the battle that begins in your mind is– by renewing your mind daily (Rom 12:2)
• By pulling down imaginations and strongholds from your mind
• By bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (2Cor.10:5)
• You have the mind of Christ; therefore develop the mind of Christ in you.

2.     Possessing Your Soul

• The next thing to do to win the battle for your soul is to possess your soul. You possess your soul: by separating your soul, your emotions, and your will unto God. This is called holiness.
• Let your thoughts be aligned with God’s thoughts. Think about a Scripture or something.
• If you are being tortured to take a wrong decision, Jesus said in the midst of it all Possess your soul by standing for Truth.
• Persecutions and afflictions are meant for one thing only – that the Word in you will not bear fruits; possess your soul and stand

​​  3. Purify Your Soul

• Purifying your soul is another way for you to win the battle for your soul.
• How does one purify his or her soul? To purify your soul the first and foremost thing is to be Sober. In your sobriety you remember the Word of God, In your sobriety, The Holy Spirit gets a chance to quicken you.
• Secondly have a grip over our mind.
• Thirdly have hope to the end.
• Fourthly do not fashion yourself in former ways of life.

4.   Aborting the Seed of the Devil​

• Aborting the seed of the devil is a way of escape for you to win the battle for your soul.
• The seed of the devil comes in the form of temptations, unholy desires, wrong longings and yearning to do evil. Whose side will you choose when you are under pressure – God or satan?
• Immediately you find your will, your emotions, your desire or any part of you turned towards something evil or yearning for a desire that is unholy that is the moment to abort that seed or desire.
• Failing to abort the seed of the devil leads to conception that will give birth to a baby (sin)
• You abort the seed of the devil by planting the Word of God inside of you.

5. Getting out of Darkness through hope​

• The way out of what the devil brings against your soul is through HOPE.
• Hope is an anchor for your soul.
• For your soul to be stable and not give up and to be able for you to move on in the face of all that the devil throws at your soul, It is HOPE.
• You have an anchor in your soul and that is HOPE.
• Darkness swallows you up without the door of HOPE.

6 Speaking the Word of God to Convert Your Soul​

• Bringing to your mind or memory What God Says is the first process of converting your soul. What the internet says, TV etc, will not convert your soul.
• Speak the Word of God day and night because it converts your soul.
• What limits you is your soul. When you speak the Word of God, your soul is aligned, your emotion is aligned; your thought process is aligned; your will is aligned and your spirit gives you power and you move forward.
• Speaking the Word of God to yourself morning and evening provides the way of escape for you to win the battle for your soul.

7. How should you live?

• How you should live is very important when it comes to winning the battle for your soul.
• Watch the songs you listen to/Films you watch
• Watch the things you watch, read or listen on the Media – Radio, TV, Newspapers, Books and the Internet.
• Watch the Friends you have – your best friend cannot be an unbeliever.
• Do not isolate yourself or do not live in isolation.
• Grow in Grace – look at yourself and ask whether you are growing by seeing fruits in your life that you did not see before; or are there things you understand now that you did not understand before.
• Pray in the Spirit often.
• Meditate on the Word of God day and night
• Speak to yourself

Conclusion

God’s intention is to save you thoroughly as a 3- dimensional being. Your spirit is saved; your soul is renewed and your body changed at resurrection. You must win this battle. You must give God glory and stand at the place and say that you are truly a Christian not only in words but in deeds to show forth the praise of God.
